Putting a few slices of lemon, lime, orange, cucumber, or mint leaves into your water has zero effect on your blood sugar, autophagy, or fasting. Lemons and other citrus contain calories, namely fructose, which stimulates the liver in a way to break the fasted state.
Lemon/Lime Water Like apple cider vinegar, lemons and limes do contain calories but having lemon or lime in your water will NOT break your fast!
The Bottom Line: Lemons and Limes contain a sugar called fructose, which will pull you out of a fast. However, if you are simply leaving the slices of lemon or lime in your water, then it’s likely that most of the fructose will remain in the fruit and not break your fast.
Does coffee break the fast?
Some say the fact that coffee triggers a metabolic response means it breaks the fast. I say that coffee increases fat mobilization and burning, independently triggers autophagy (something we’re looking for when we fast), and makes it easier to stave off hunger. Does lemon juice/coke zero break a fast?
I am not an expert at all, but by pure logic I would say if lemon juice, which is an acid, breaks a guy resting fast, coke zero would too for sure, because it’s an acid too. Not to be a dick or anything, but “likely diesnt break a fast” doesnt sound convincing at all.
