Its 1960s town centre architecture has attracted critical acclaim from the National Trust and the £30 million redevelopment of the Fairfield Halls, Croydon’s iconic theatre and concert hall, will re-establish its position as a top-tier venue capable of attracting leading performers and shows to the town. Fairfield Halls is due to reopen in Spring 2019.

The borough’s arts and culture scene is growing and evolving with new galleries such as RISE, more live music, theatre. Croydon’s fantastic street art is just part of the bigger picture.
Art helps to create a sense of place and identity – this is really important to Croydon as the town centre undergoes extensive regeneration. Croydon is investing in the cultural quarter, helping to facilitate commissioned street murals across 100 sites in the town centre. RISE Gallery works closely with Croydon School of Art helping to grow local talent.
Opened in October 2016, Boxpark Croydon has established a new entertainment hub next to East Croydon station, which is already home to 35 street food restaurants, bars and cafes and is able to host cultural and music events for up to 2,000 people. Croydon offers a vibrant shopping experience with a variety of independent stores, international food shops and the historic Surrey Street Market in the Old Town.
The Whitgift Centre and Centrale shopping centre on North End in central Croydon are home to top retail brands, and there are a number of retail parks on Croydon’s Purley Way offering access to prominent home and lifestyle brands.
Westfield & Hammerson
Developers Westfield and Hammerson have formed the Croydon Partnership to transform the heart of the town centre through a £1.4 billion scheme, which will create a new world-class retail and leisure destination with over 300 shops, restaurants and cafes, complete with a family friendly leisure offer including a multiplex cinema.
