Free workshop to help firms applying for Croydon business awards

A workshop to help firms get the inside track on how to make the shortlist for prizes at Croydon’s biggest business awards is taking place next week.

Croydon Business Excellence Awards 2017 is holding a free workshop for companies and individuals at Sussex Innovation Centre next Friday, (June 9) from 2pm to 3pm. Experts from the centre, which supports entrepreneurs, start-ups and scale-ups, will offer advice, hints and tips on how to make an awards entry stand out from the competition.

Saffron Saunders, Network Coordinator at Sussex Innovation Centre, said: “We give companies and their founders the confidence and connections to help them succeed. We encourage every company to enter the awards – it’s a fabulous way to reflect on great work achieved over the past year.”

The awards are free to enter across 14 different categories, with easy-to-follow online registration. Entries are invited for 14 awards categories, including the new women in business award, a new cultural impact award, as well as hotly contested categories covering tech and innovation, young entrepreneur, retailer of the year, and food and hospitality – all vitally important to Croydon’s exciting regeneration.

Alison Addy, Head of Community Engagement at Gatwick Airport – which is the headline sponsor of the event – said: “We can really see the awards growing and going from strength to strength, year upon year. That’s why we are delighted to be headline sponsors again for 2017 and look forward to celebrating the best of business in Croydon. With Gatwick Airport so close it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to build links with the Croydon business community.”

In relation to the new cultural award, Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison, Director of the Rise Gallery, said: “Culture is such a vital part of building a community’s unique identity – there are lots of amazing people doing fantastic work in culture and the arts in Croydon and they deserve to be recognised.”

The closing for entries is Friday, Jun 23. Shortlisted companies selected by an independent adjudicator will go forward to the second round of a robust and impartial judging process. The winners will be announced, along with the overall Business of the Year, at a glittering black-tie gala dinner and charity ball in the Grand Sapphire on Thursday, October 5.
